Dr. Katie Leicht, DO is a Family Medicine Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine. She specializes in the health and well-being of YOU!
Katie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and will always cite her Cajun beginnings even though she moved to Houston when she was a little over a year old. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston with a minor in Sociology. While in college, Katie interned in Washington DC, where she got her first taste of real advocacy while watching health bills being argued on the floor of the House of Representatives. Always a jack of all trades, she pursued music, politics, and, science.
In search of a passion that would allow her to support those who couldn’t advocate for themselves, Katie began her professional career pursuing politics, law, and social work. She soon found out that while you can advocate for children and families in courts and shelters, those avenues only mitigate larger problems. Medicine and healing are the true synergy of science and human compassion. It is a place where you can elicit long-lasting and undeniable change – in a person, their family, and their community.
So, after getting accepted into law school, Katie shifted gears and decided her heart lay in medicine, and she would become a physician. She completed a post-baccalaureate at the Harvard Extension School in Cambridge and then attended NOVA Southeastern University Medical School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. While there, Katie served as the Vice President of her class and was recognized for serving the most volunteer hours in the first two years of medical school. Since travel is her favorite hobby, she volunteered for medical mission trips to Ecuador and Bangladesh. Upon graduating, Dr. Leicht was awarded one of the highest honors in her medical school class- the Achievement Award, which is presented to the student exhibiting the highest qualities of service and leadership, combined with scholarship, integrity, and personal worth.
The award she received upon medical school graduation sums up Dr. Leicht well. She strives to serve her community and provide evidence-based healing in a welcoming environment, all while maintaining integrity and human compassion.
After graduating residency at Broward Health, a level one trauma center with more than 800 beds, it was time to return home to Texas. Dr. Leicht made the move to the Austin area in 2017, where she has worked in primary care and on the front lines during the pandemic. She is excited to be joining the H-E-B team of physicians in April 2022!
Dr. Leicht enjoys spending quality time with her family and dog Hazel. She loves playing piano and gardening (when it’s not too hot), and she looks forward to fulfilling her dream of stepping on all seven continents (just two left). Most of all, Dr. Leicht looks forward to taking care of all your family medicine needs and can’t wait for y’all to start your healthcare journey together!
